How we choose your plan

We look for the least expensive plan that comfortably covers what you told us. Here's exactly what goes into it.

Our four rules

1

What we compare

  • Monthly price, from each company's official pricing page
  • Usage limits, like how many messages, images or research reports you get
  • Which apps it works inside, like Gmail, Word or Outlook
  • How well it works on a phone versus a computer
  • How much you can do on the free plan before paying
2

How we use your answers

  • First we ask who it's for: just you, your family, your work on your own, or a team
  • If you use AI a few times a month or want to spend $0, we suggest a free plan
  • If you'd use it a few times a week, we suggest the lower-cost tier first. You can upgrade if you hit the limits
  • We favor plans built into the apps you already use, like Gmail or Word
  • Your budget always counts. If the best fit costs more than you said, we tell you and show the closest option within your budget
  • If you already pay for a plan that fits, we tell you to keep it
  • For businesses only, we ask about private info. Client info points to business plans that don't train on your data by default. Health info points to plans whose company says it offers a BAA, which can need a sales call. A BAA alone doesn't make you HIPAA compliant. We don't provide HIPAA compliance advice.
  • We suggest one plan, and list any you're paying for that overlap with it
3

How we check prices

  • Prices checked daily, with source links, from official pricing pages only
  • Each price in our comparison links to its official source. Always confirm there before you buy
  • If we can't confirm a price, we mark it "check price" instead of guessing
4

What can change a pick

  • A company changes a plan's price or limits
  • A new plan launches that fits you better for less
  • Your answers change, like a new budget or new apps
  • What never changes it: money from AI companies. No one can pay to rank higher.
